Medical radiation and imaging technologists are regulated health professionals under Ontario’s Regulated Health Professions Act. Employers of medical radiation and imaging technologists have an important role in working with CMRITO in making sure that the public receives safe and ethical care from medical radiation and imaging technologists.
Find a Registrant is an online Register that provides publicly available information about registrant. You can search by the registrant’s name, place of employment or CMRITO number. Every medical radiation and imaging technologist registered in Ontario has a profile on the public register.
Occasionally, CMRITO receives reports about individuals who are not registered medical radiation and imaging technologists who may be seeking employment in the profession, or holding themselves out as qualified to practice in radiography, radiation therapy, nuclear medicine, magnetic resonance, or diagnostic medical sonography.
CMRITO is required to publish the results of public hearings held by its Discipline Committee. To fulfil this requirement, the CMRITO publishes summaries of decisions below, in the annual report and under the registrant's profile in ‘Find a Registrant’.
The CMRITO Standards of Practice define safe, effective and ethical care for patients receiving services from medical radiation and imaging technologists. All medical radiation and imaging technologists are accountable for adhering to the Standards of Practice. Practice guidelines supplement the essential components of practice.
Medical radiation and imaging technologists use ionizing radiation, electromagnetism, and soundwaves to produce diagnostic images of patients and administer radiation to treat patients, on the order of a physician or other authorized health professionals. Employers need to understand what procedures medical radiation and imaging technologists are able to perform.
Under the Regulated Health Professions Act, employers, facilities and all regulated health professionals (including medical radiation and imaging technologists) have mandatory reporting obligations in order to protect the public from harm.
