Updated September 27, 2024

The College has received a high volume of comments regarding the proposed annual registration fee.

Thank you to our registrants, stakeholders, and the public for giving us your feedback.

Council will carefully consider all input received before making a decision.

The Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991 (RHPA) gives the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO or the College) the authority to make by-laws relating to the administration and internal affairs of the College. This includes by-laws requiring registrants to pay annual registration fees and by-laws specifying the amount of those fees.

For the first time since 2011, CMRITO Council is proposing to change section 26 of CMRITO By-law No. 60 to increase the annual registration fee with CMRITO. If approved, the proposed changes would take effect February 1, 2025. The information Council considered in proposing this increase to the annual registration fee can be found here.

In accordance with the Health Professions Procedural Code (the Code), being Schedule 2 to the RHPA, the proposed changes are being circulated to registrants and stakeholders for comment for a period of 60 days. The deadline to comment is Sunday, November 24, 2024 at 11:59 pm.

Prior to approving the proposed changes, Council will meet to carefully consider all comments, keeping in mind the CMRITO’s mandate to protect the public interest.

You can review the proposed changes to CMRITO By-law No. 60 here.

You can review CMRITO By-law No. 60 in full here.

CMRITO’s current annual registration fee is lower than the annual registration fee of 22 of the other 25 regulated health professions in Ontario, and the proposed annual registration fee will continue to be lower than 21 of the 25 other RHPA Colleges. Please click here to see a table comparing CMRITO’s current and proposed annual registration fees to the current fees for registrants at all RHPA Colleges in Ontario.

I absolutely DO NOT support an increase to our fees. Absolutely ridiculous that this is even being considered.

That is way too high for annual registration it is already way too high. Not happy at all

That is a very large jump in fees. Registered nurses in Ontario only pay 452 dollars for registration why should we have higher dues than an RN when we are not compared on the same scale as an RN???

No

This is an absurd raise without any transparency from the college with what „financial” goals or stability entails. Nurses do not pay nearly the same amount for licensing and yet they have much more professional autonomy, recognition, support then the college offers us.

THis is a 36% change! Outrageous!! I'd rather see smaller increase each and every year rather than be bombarded with 36% all at once! CMRITO needs to be more responsible about increases in the future. Just because it's "only changed twice in 32 years" doesn't make 36% okay now... Ridiculous.

This increase is very steep, with the addition of ultrasound technologists, should our fees not decrease as they are now having to pay this as well? What additional services and resources will be provided by this aggressive raise in price?

Would like to know more on what the increased fee would cover since there is no information regarding that. Otherwise would be against the proposed increased

It’s discouraging for people considering a career that is regulated by CMRITO. In addition to personal liability and other regulatory fees we need to pay to ensure that we do meet the CMRITO standards (eg requiring 25 hours of learning but not providing ways to achieve those hours means we do have to pay other regulatory bodies sometimes a 1/3 of the annual CMRITO fee) For a sector that’s already crippled by staff shortages, I fear the repercussions might outweigh the benefits.

What other cost cutting measures have been proposed? Perhaps CMRITO headquarters does not have to be located in the downtown core. Perhaps executive compensation and gratuities should be limited prior to increasing registration fees?

I think this proposed change is outrageous. We do not make enough money to afford a raise of this increase, that is a 25% incrase, we haven’t even received a working raise of over 1% in years. This amount of money in addition to the necessary liability insurance we need to pay in order to work is close to 1500$ a year. No other equal medical professionals pay this much. I am not in agreement with this proposed change
Posted Mon, 23 Sep 2024 18:00:00 GMT by CMRITO registrant
This is absolutely RIDICULOUS. We pay enough for fees every year. Especially with our shortage in our profession across Canada, how is this affordable????
Posted Mon, 23 Sep 2024 18:00:00 GMT by CMRITO registrant
Hello, This increase is excessive and will cause member hardship in some circumstances. Please align your financial goals to take in to account the needs of your members. I am shocked by this request.

This feels like a drastic increase for licensure fees especially considering the profession has seen maybe a 4% increase in wages in the last decade. This will be seen as a detriment to those in the profession, and may entice some to further leave all together.

Our fees are already too high, especially when adding PLI as well. It's unfair to compare our regulation fees with professions that make far more than us and still say it's an appropriate raise. CMRITO left us northern techs high and dry during the pandemic, why would I want to pay more fees to a college that doesn't advocate for us regardless? At least the college of nurses knows how much of a hardship it is and have settled on a reasonable number for their workers. Boo to the CMRITO - this isn't fair or right.
Posted Mon, 23 Sep 2024 18:30:00 GMT by CMRITO registrant
This is a huge jump, and as most techs I know are not reimbursed by their employer for registration fees, it's coming directly out of front line staff's pockets. Is it really necessary to achieve this financial goal by 2028? What about a more reasonable one time fee increase (ex. under $100), or a gradual increase over the next few years? It would have been appreciated by registrants to be consulted before a number was chosen as then maybe with the input of those responsible for the fee, a less egregious increase would have been settled on. Saying we pay less than others doesn't sway us. I for one do not approve this increase.

Living in Canada, Several Sonographers are living paycheck to paycheck. To increase the annual registration fee to 643$ is absurd and completely disregards the financial situations of healthcare works, like sonographers who work to appease the general public and public health. How come CMRITO cannot fund itself? How can you rely on hard working sonographers to pay these large fees to reach YOUR financial goals. Please consider the families living paycheck to paycheck, who can barely afford to buy groceries , before you selfishly decide to raise registration fees for sonographers, as you cannot fund yourself without OUR help.
Posted Mon, 23 Sep 2024 18:30:00 GMT by CMRITO registrant
Strongly disagree to raise registration fees; there's already inflation and causing registration fees to increase will only make members more frustrated.
Posted Mon, 23 Sep 2024 18:30:00 GMT by CMRITO registrant
Too expensive. Cost of living is going up, wages not going up fast enough, and this is one extra expense we do not wish to pay. You can think of ways to cut budget but this fee increase should not be falling on the members
