I am a single mother and sonographer. Over the past 3 years I have not received raises that even come close to covering the cost of inflation. I simply can barely afford to live comfortably in this economy. Other provinces do not pay a provincial college fee for their sonography designation. I am largely unaware what value you bring to this profession at all, and you should reduce fees to reflect this. In turn you could reduce spending using our fee sums on Human Resources and investment properties purchased as outlined in your 2023 budget. Thank you.

The proposed increase is too much too quick. If an increase is truly needed, it should be staggered over multiple years. As well cost savings should be explored. Adding costs to practice and therefore adding costs to entry to practice may dissuade people from joining the profession, or moving to Ontario to practice at a time when every health care domain is facing a human resource crisis.

I am retired but still help at work due to shortage of staff. And you want $200 more from Members due to your bad planning?

To whom it may concern I am writing to express my concern regarding the proposed significant increase in the annual registration fee for members of the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario (CMRITO). As a dedicated medical radiation technologist, I believe that this increase is not justified, especially in comparison to the fees of other regulated health professions in Ontario, which are considerably lower. Medical radiation technologists, like other healthcare professionals, work tirelessly to provide essential services that ensure the health and safety of our patients. However, the proposed fee hike seems disproportionate, particularly when our compensation and working conditions do not differ significantly from those of other healthcare workers. Increasing the financial burden on technologists without providing a clear and compelling rationale or outlining the tangible benefits we would receive is both unfair and discouraging. I understand the need for the College to maintain operations and fulfill its mandate to regulate the profession in the public interest, but I urge you to consider the impact this increase will have on your members. Many of us are already facing rising costs in our personal and professional lives, and the additional financial strain could make it difficult for some to maintain their registration. I kindly request that the College reassess this decision and provide a detailed explanation of why this increase is necessary, as well as explore alternative solutions to minimize the financial impact on its members. Transparency, fairness, and equity should guide decisions that affect the livelihoods of healthcare professionals who are already contributing significantly to Ontario’s healthcare system. We don’t care that it will cost you a lot to break your lease. It is not our fault that you as an organization have made bad financial decisions. It is not on us as technologists to bail you out. Figure it out yourselves without overcharging us!!!

As a registrant, I would like to see an outside financial consultant, chosen in agreement between the registrants and the college, to review and find areas where cost at the college might be reduced before registrant fees are increased.

That is a ridiculous amount to increase. 73%?!!!! Come on!!!!

This flagrant increase is absurd. It calls to question the capacity of the Council to effectively manage our dues. The decades old issues with the over-priced office lease combined with the ‘sudden’ dues crisis is beyond concerning. Proper fiscal management would have led to smaller escalations in dues over time. Now we are being forced to pay for this. Council members, or at the very least, Finance and Audit committee members need to resign. Your arguments that other higher paid professionals pay higher dues is weak and sluggish. The only comparison to make is with the CNO. Perhaps Council could learn from them how to operate an efficient and fiscally responsible organization.

This fee hike came quite a shock and i am opposing it. As a member, with today's cost of living, for a full remote organization to increase cost while its memebers have been an onsite workforce is a hard sell. For those of us not working as a patient facing role, where membership is not be required (along with other colleagues in teaching, management, private sector) makes me debate if continuing in the membership is worth it. More broadly, post pandemic, this membership cost hike come as a addition deterrant pressure, as we already struggle to keep folks in the profession and failing. I write this with the hopes that council will reconsider this decision before it takes a detriment toll on the MRITs.

What if we cannot afford it? We lose more techs and work more short staffed than we already are? What if we all decided not to pay the fee, what would happen then?
